Ocean County Roofing Company

December 18, 2018 By sammyb

Are you on the hunt for a reputable Ocean County roofing company? Hiring the right contractor is important to make the most of your investment and be happy with the work and, ultimately, with your upgraded home. Below are five tips for avoiding a bad Ocean County roofing company:

How to Avoid a Bad Experience with an Ocean County Roofing Company

Ocean County Roofing CompanyGet everything in writing:

Many major home renovation projects require a significant capital investment from the homeowner and a well-planned allocation of time and resources from the Ocean County roofing company. The possibility of something being overlooked, ignored, or simply misunderstood increases with big projects, which is why a document spelling out all the contractor’s responsibilities ultimately protects homeowners. If a contractor fails to deliver on an aspect of the job, you can point to the contract to show what’s expected.

Make Sure They Provide a Timetable:

Part of what you should get in writing from your Ocean County roofing company is when the work will start, how long the job will take, and what deadlines are in place (important for projects that require multiple steps, such as an addition in which electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work may be necessary). Besides a timetable, ask what contingency plans a contractor has in place in case an unexpected delay does occur. For example, bad weather may postpone roof work, but it shouldn’t mean you wait extra weeks for the job to resume.

Document every cost:

Another important requirement to protect yourself against bad experience with an Ocean County roofing company is a detailed explanation of each cost and a final number that you will pay. Ask questions on why something is priced the way it is. Be extra adamant to ask questions if an initial estimate from the contractor varies widely from the final quote and don’t sign anything if something just doesn’t seem right.

Check for Certifications, Insurance, Reviews, & BBB Complaints:

The best roofing contractors are recognized as such from the manufacturers whose products they work with. For example, GAF offers its Master Elite certification program to the top tier of contractors it works with. The absence of any certifications could be a red flag. These days, plenty of online review sites, from Angie’s List to HomeAdvisor to even Google, can be consulted to check on the trustworthiness, or lack thereof, of a residential contractor. Some reviews might need to be taken with a grain of salt, but if you are seeing multiple bad reviews and the same issues keep coming up, steer clear of that contractor. Similarly, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if complaints have been lodged with a contractor. Also, ask about the Ocean County roofing company’s insurance. A properly insured contractor not only covers damage to your house on the job but also protects you from liability if a worker is injured on your property.

Watch Out for the Bargain Price:

Proceed with extreme caution if an Ocean County roofing company comes in several thousand dollars less on its bid than other estimates you have received. Such a lowball offer can indicate a number of things, including:

  • The contractor will need to work with substandard materials, unqualified labor, and poor-quality subcontractors just to make a profit on its low bid.
  • The contractor hasn’t fully evaluated what the job will entail, which could lead to big problems down the line.
  • The contractor is desperate for the job, and desperate people generally don’t deliver good work.

When you see a bargain bid, remember: “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is” and “You get what you pay for.” You always want to look for value in any business transaction, but too much value is many times a sign of other problems.

Finding The Right NJ Roofing Company

October 19, 2017 By sammyb

Are you looking for the Right NJ Roofing Company? When searching for the right NJ roofing company, you inevitably want to ensure that you find the most reliable and skilled company in your area. It can be difficult to find the right company, however, because there are so many companies out there. Fortunately, there are some things you can keep an eye out for as you search for a company to help guide your decision. Try to remember the following tips as you shop around for the right roofing company.

Tips to Choose the Right NJ Roofing Company

Communication is always the biggest sign that you can keep an eye out for. Good communication is the key to any relationship, business or otherwise. It is something that needs to be happening frequently and honestly. If you have questions, you should be able to ask your roofing company and expect an honest answer in a timely manner. A roofing company that cares will do this for you, no questions asked. Pay more attention to the quality of their communication, however, as a smaller company just may not have a well enough staffed office to get back you quickly. This is acceptable to an extent, but don’t let it get ridiculous.

Proper certifications, permits, and insurance are also a major factor to look out for. You want to make sure that, first of all, these guys know what they’re doing. The last thing you want is a bunch of unexperienced guys up hammering away at your roof. The insurance will give you the security that if something goes wrong, it’s covered. That’s important and can certainly help to calm nerves.

Word of mouth is the best way to find a local roofing company that you can trust. If local, trusted sources such as neighbors or friends can vouch for a company, that’s a good sign. They are people who wouldn’t get anything out of lying to you about that. This is by far the best way and may even offer you an in depth look at work they’ve already done.

Do You Need to Hire a NJ Roofing Company?

Roof Construction – Choosing the Right Contractor for the Job

November 9, 2015 By sammyb

Choosing the right guy for your roof construction is not the easiest task to accomplish. With so many different contractors out there offering slightly different things, how do we know which one is the best for us? Here are some things you can do when determining which contract0r to choose for roof construction:

Choosing the Right Contractor for Roof Construction

West Orange Roof Construction | Central NJ Roofers

  • When considering a company for roof construction, you should check for a permanent place of business, telephone number, tax identification number and, where applicable, a business license.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask a roofing contractor for proof of insurance.  Make sure the coverage’s are in effect through the duration of the roof construction. Many building and home owners have been dragged into litigation involving uninsured roofing contractors. Also, if a contractor is not properly insured, you may be liable for accidents that occur on your property, which is a serious matter.
  • Make sure the roofing contractor is properly licensed before beginning roof construction. Some states have specific licensing requirements, and others do not.
  • Make sure the contractor is financially stable. A professional roofing contractor can provide current financial information about his company.
  • Look for a company with a proven track record that offers client references and a list of completed roof construction projects. Call these clients to find out whether they were satisfied.
  • Ask for a detailed, written proposal and examine it for complete descriptions of the work and specifications, including approximate starting and completion dates and payment procedures.
  • Have the contractor list the roofing manufacturers with which his firm is a licensed or approved applicator. Most roof systems require special application expertise to achieve lasting quality, so this is important for any roof construction project.
  • Have the contractor explain his roof construction project supervision and quality-control procedures. Request the name of the person who will be in charge of your project, how many workers will be required and estimated completion time.
  • Check to see if the contractor is a member of any regional or national industry associations. Being a member of industry associations demonstrates professionalism.
  • Call your local Better Business Bureau or Department of Professional Regulation to check for possible complaints filed against the contractor.
  • Carefully read and understand any roof construction warranties offered, and watch for provisions that would void it.

5 Steps to Hiring the Right Roofers

September 8, 2015 By admin

Roofing ranks among the largest and most expensive projects a homeowner can undertake, and selecting wrong roofers will bring your worst nightmare to you home. Take the time to be certain you find a roofing contractor you trust to put a roof over your head.

5 Steps to Hiring the Right Roofers – NJ Roofers

Hiring the Right NJ Roofers | Central NJ Roofing Contractor

Whereas other home upgrades are purely elective, roof repairs aren’t a choice; they’re essential. Besides being critically important to personal comfort, structural integrity, and the resale value of your home, roofing ranks among the largest and most expensive projects a homeowner can undertake. The significant costs involved motivate some ambitious do-it-yourselfers to do the work on their own. But for the majority of us, a roofing job means hiring a professional. So if you’re at an early stage of the process, take control by finding a qualified contractor with a solid reputation. Hire well, and you can expect the roofers not only to get the job done on time and on budget, but also to offer valuable insight on the best materials for your house style and the climate where you live. So rather than flip open the yellow pages and settle on the first company listed, follow these steps designed to help you find someone you can trust to put a roof over your head

1. Get a referral
One tried-and-true method of finding a reliable contractor is to query your friends and neighbors. Within the past few years, has anyone in your life had work done on his roof? Make a list of names, reach out to each person, and ask two questions: Was he happy with the job done and would he work with that contractor again? Testimonials provide the most accurate picture of what your experience might be with a given company, and you can count on personal contacts to give you honest feedback. Outside of your circle, you can also get leads from lumber yards and hardware stores.

2. Do your research
If you’ve identified at least three qualified roofers, you can get started investigating each one. Start by verifying the businesses’ contact information. Next, confirm that each one is licensed and insured. Consult your chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau to be certain there are no red flags to be aware of. Then finally look for reports on contractor review sites, such as Angie’s List.

5 Steps to Hiring the Right NJ Roofers

3. Meet face-to-face them
Having narrowed the field, invite the prospective contractors to visit your home and scope out the job. You’ll want to discuss roofing materials and the extent of work to be done, but don’t forget to ask about the time and manpower needed for completion. Observe the contractor: He should be enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional in demeanor. Certainly, you’re dealing with an authority on materials and methods, but don’t be deterred from participating in the decision-making process! Ask a lot of questions and before he leaves, remember to get a list of references (then remember to check them).

4. Get it in writing
Work shouldn’t begin until you have a signed contract detailing every aspect of the job. Make certain it covers safety procedures and liability, including workers’ compensation. The contract should also specify such things as clean-up methods, payment amounts, and the schedule. Consider requesting a lien waiver to protect against claims that could arise if the roofers fails to pay a vendor for materials.

5. You get what you pay for
The cheapest bid probably isn’t your best bet. Of course, the estimates issued are a factor to consider. But more important is your level of confidence in a given roofers ability to do an outstanding job. If you’re impressed by a company that isn’t the cheapest, ask yourself, “How much is peace of mind worth to me?” For many homeowners, it’s worth quite a lot.

Top Roofing Contractor – How to Choose One

August 10, 2015 By sammyb

A new roof is quite the investment for most homeowners. For that reason, it is important that you choose the top roofing contractor for the job. You don’t want to let just anyone handle the job. Here are some basic things to look for that will help you narrow down your selection and choose the top roofing contractor for your project:

Choosing a Top Roofing Contractor

Spring Lake Top Roofing Contractor | Monmouth County Roofer

  • If you’re taking bids for your roofing project, don’t immediately accept the lowest bid. A low bid could mean poor quality materials or sub-standard work. At the same time a top roofing contractor may be able to offer a low bid because he has low overhead or a source for quality materials at lower prices. If in doubt ask the roofing contractor how he was able to arrive at his bid.
  • How long has the top roofing contractor been in business? A company with an established business is likely to be around when you need them. If you have a warranty, you want to make certain someone is around to honor it should there ever be a problem.
  • Make certain the top roofing contractor is licensed and insured. In most states it is illegal for a roofing contractor to work without a license. This protects consumers from contractors that aren’t experienced in the industry. Ask about insurance, particularly liability and worker’s compensation. A roofer without insurance coverage can leave you open to all sorts of risk, from damage to your property to liability for personal injury.
  • Ask for references. A top roofing contractor will be happy to provide you with a list of previous customers. Just be aware that you’ll most likely be getting a list of satisfied customers. It’s not in any contractor’s best interest to give you the contact information for unhappy customers.
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau. This is where you’ll find those unhappy customers if there are any. Remember that any company that deals with a large volume of customers can get a few complaints. What’s important is how they handled those complaints.
  • Look for a top roofing contractor that has good communication skills. You want someone that you can talk to about your project, that will readily answer all your questions and that will keep you informed every step of the way. Poor communication can lead to misunderstandings, a finished job you may not be happy with and unwelcome surprises on your final bill.
  • Make certain you hire a roofing contractor that offers a guarantee on the project. The roofing materials manufacturer will usually include a product warranty but this does not cover the installation. If there is a problem with the installation or materials, you want to have a written guarantee from the top roofing contractor that he will be there to take care of the problem.
  • A roofing company is only as good as the workers they employ. A top roofing contractor should be readily able to answer these two questions: What kind of training or skill levels do you demand of workers? Do you provide safety training programs? Workers that follow safety training procedures haven been proven to have less accidents on the job.
  • Does the roofing company crew clean up the job site? If they need to remove old roofing materials is the clean up included in the cost? A top roofing contractor will be very fastidious and will clean up the site as they go. Others may wait until the end of the job which can leave your property looking unkempt and can also create a hazard.
  • Get a written contract. While an old fashioned handshake is nice and a sign of a courteous contractor, you still need to have everything in writing. This includes the scope of the project, the materials to be used and their specifications, the dates for beginning and completion of the job and an itemized list of cost for all materials and labor.

Homeowner Tips for Choosing the Best Roofer

September 8, 2013 By sammyb

East Brunswick Roofing Company Say you’re an East Brunswick homeowner, and are  looking to find a top Central NJ roofing contractor. Choosing the right roofing company is, by no means, a simple task. There are many factors that weigh in when deciding which roofing contractor is the most fitting for your personal needs. So the question is, how can you determine which roofing contractor to hire? Here are some helpful tips on how to do so.

Central NJ Roofing Contractors-Tips For Choosing the Best

1.  Find out how long the NJ roofing company has been around the area. If it is relatively new, it may not be as reliable or experienced as one that has been in business for a decade or two.
2.  It is important to know that the NJ roofing contractor has a permanent place of business, all the necessary contact information, and is a licensed business. This will show legitimacy of the company and make it easier to keep in touch.
3.  It’s a really good idea to ask to see hard copies of the NJ roofing contractor’s liability insurance. That way there can’t be any legal issues if something unfortunate and unpredictable occurs at the job site.
4.  Thoroughly analyze the estimate. There are many factors that you should know such as the start and end of the job. Also know about when the payments are due. You never want to pay all at once before the job is even started because that can become a major headache if something goes wrong.
5.  If you are considering a certain NJ roofing company, find out how they did with past clients. Most NJ roofing companies will have references or you can most likely find online reviews. If most, if not all, testimonials are positive and the company seems satisfactory, then you don’t have to worry as much about the quality of its work.
6.  Don’t determine your NJ roofing contractor solely because of price. Get different  free estimates from different NJ roofing companies and compare while weighing in other factors. Some contractors can be very expensive and don’t do an ideal job. While others can be inexpensive, but do an amazing job. Also make sure to ask plenty of questions.
7.  Don’t pay until the roofing job is totally done. There is always a smaller fee due up front, but most of the price isn’t paid for right away. Paying up front in full can be a recipe for losing money or just running into trouble that you shouldn’t have to deal with. .
8.  See if the NJ roofing company offers any warranties. Getting your roof replaced or repaired can burn a nice sized hole in your wallet. Make sure you understand exactly what the warranty does for you. Also keep a copy of the warranty in a safe place and DO NOT lose it.
