Middlesex County Roofer

January 25, 2020 By sammyb

If you’re a homeowner, having a reliable Middlesex County roofer to call when you need one is a good idea. Roofing work is something that needs to be handled ASAP when it comes up. It also needs to be done well or it won’t last. When you’re looking for a good roofer for your home, there are a few tips to try and sift through all of the possible contractors out there. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you search for a professional roofer for your home.

Best Middlesex County Roofer

Choosing the Right Middlesex County Roofer

  • Ask Around – By far the best way to get unbiased opinions about a roofers work is by asking people you know. A billboard or commercial is an advertisement paid for by the company, so of course they’ll talk themselves up! If you ask a friend or family member, they would have no reason to lie to you about the results. You also will have the ability to go and see their work for yourself. Remember, if you’re going to be putting a bit of money into a Middlesex County roofer, you want to be sure you’re getting top-notch work.
  • Get Estimates – Many people make the mistake of just getting one or two estimates and choosing the cheaper one. Many contractors offer free estimates for your roofing job. You should try and get several estimates that you can compare together. It’s easier to remove any outliers that way and choose a fair price for the work. It’s also important that you don’t just go with the lowest estimate you receive. Often times a lower price means lower quality work.
  • Communicate – When it comes to contacting a contractor, communication is a major factor. Chances are you’re hiring a contractor because you don’t know how to do the job yourself. You need to make sure they’re communicating everything that’s going on and not trying to take advantage of your lack of knowledge on the subject. If they seem to be dodging questions about the work they’re doing, you have good reason to be concerned.

Signs of Roof Damage

February 14, 2018 By sammyb

Are you in the Colts Neck NJ area and curious as to if your roof is in need of repairs or replacements? Homeowners often fail to inspect their roof, but it is actually key to saving you a lot of money. Neglected minor damages can eventually become major repair projects. Getting into the habit of inspecting your roof at least twice a year will not only prevent damages from getting out of hand, but will also keep your house value up.

Colts Neck Roofing Tips

A roof inspection involves checking both the inside and outside of your roof. To begin, you will want to go to attic. Here are some damages that you should look for:

  • parts of the roof deck that are slumping
  • holes in the roof where light is shining through
  • dark spots or trails on the wood
  • indications of leaks or water damage

After you’ve done that, it’s now time to inspect the exterior for damages. Here are some things to look for:

  • shingles that are damaged or missing
  • a lot of shingle grains in the drainage system
  • rot or mold under shingles or shingles covered in algae
  • signs of erosion near chimneys or vents.

If you need assistance with a roof inspection, consider contacting a Colts Neck roofing contractor.

Why Hire a Professional NJ Roofer

January 15, 2017 By sammyb

While there are some projects that are great for DIY, it’s not the best idea to work on your NJ roof. A roof is a significant investment and something you want to take great care of to ensure that you get the most value from it in the long term as well as comfort. Here are some top reasons why choosing to hire a professional NJ roofer is the better choice.

Reasons to Hire a Pro NJ Roofer

Bernardsville NJ Roofer | Roofing Contractor in New Jersey

  • Keep Costs Down. It might seem counterintuitive that hiring and paying a professional NJ roofer could actually help keep your costs down, they have the knowledge to properly repair roofing. This way, won’t have to pay extra to have someone fix your mistakes if you do it wrong. In addition, they have the proper tools and safety equipment, and often get lower prices on the highest quality materials from manufacturers.
  • Consider Your Safety. Another reason to hire a professional NJ roofer is for safety. The roof is a notoriously dangerous place, with steep slopes and slippery surfaces high off the ground. One wrong move while up there and you could be seriously injured. A professional NJ roofer has the right safety equipment and experience hauling materials up and down ladders so they can get it done safely and you can avoid injury.
  • Protect Your Home During and After the Project. Hiring professional NJ roofers can also help protect your home, which is often your most valuable asset. During a roofing repair project professionals can get the job done quickly to avoid leaving your home exposed for long periods of time. After the project most professional roofers will offer a warranty on materials, labor, or both. This protects your home and your roof investment for several years to come.

Signs of a Good Roofer

March 11, 2016 By sammyb

There will always come a time when a homeowner needs the services of a professional roofer. With so many different roofing contractors out there, how does one know which one to choose? Here are some questions you should ask yourself about each roofer you are considering:

Determining the Best Roofer

Roofer in Livingston | NJ Roofing Contractor

  • How did the first call go? Was there someone who answered the phone? If not, how long did it take to get a call back? Many roofers work from home and may not have an office staff. Some roofing companies may have an office and warehouse to store materials which is a sign of a solid roofer. Was the first impression good or bad? Was the call pleasant? Remember they are there to get as much information about you and the roofing job you want, and book  an appointment.
  • On the day of the appointment, was your estimator on time? An estimator that is on time deserves credit for that because that means they respect your time. A phone call should be made even if being a few minutes late. This is a good sign of being organized and how the job timeline should go.
  • Is the estimator prepared with brochures and examples of jobs like yours. Does he have the correct equipment to look at the roof and provide you an estimate right there and now? Can he provide you with the credential’s to do business such as licenses and proof of insurance certificates? Some larger and more difficult jobs may take more visits but most roofer services should be able to provide you an estimate while there. Getting it done in one visit instead of dragging it out for another appointment saves you time.
  • Does the estimator ask for the job? Is he prepared to complete a contract and get you scheduled to start the roof? Don’t be offended by this, it is their job to get business for their company and a well prepared and professional roofer will ask for the business.
  • Are they timely in getting other information you may need or ask for? Sometimes there are some questions that need research to be answered. Does he do that in a timely manor?

North Brunswick Roofing Contractor Tips

April 4, 2015 By sammyb

Spring can many times bring strong storms that can pound away at your roof. Now that it’s the beginning of spring, any professional North Brunswick roofing contractor would recommend that you make sure your roof is ready to endure the upcoming weather. Below is a list of things you or a North Brunswick roofing contractor should check for:

North Brunswick Roofing Contractor Springtime Checklist

Central NJ Roofers

Things a North Brunswick roofing contractor would recommend to be checked:

  • Check downspout exits to make sure they haven’t been damaged.
  • Inspect and clear debris from rooftop gutters and header boxes.

  • Clear internal gutters.
  • Inspect and clear weep holes around rooftop windows and skylights.
  • Make sure rooftop units and PV penetrations are secure and watertight.
  • Remove leaves and debris from the rooftop.

Kendall Park NJ Common Roofing Questions

January 23, 2015 By sammyb

There are a lot of questions that a roof owner may have in the Kendall Park NJ area. Today, we decided to answer a few of the most commonly asked ones:

Kendall Park NJ Roofing Q & A

Kendall-Park-NJ-Roofer

  • There is no roofing felt under the shingles. Is this the right way to install them?

No. Unless it’s an overlay, there should be felt separating the roofing materials and the deck. Many times people will do it the wrong way to save money. The felt acts as a vapor barrier between the roof deck and the shingles, is a waterproofing element of the roof, and prevents the wood deck from sucking up oils from the asphalt shingles.

  • How much longer will a metal roof last than more common roofing materials like asphalt or wood shingle?

A metal roof will last at least 2 to 3 times longer than a regular roof. While asphalt roofs last usually 15-20 years if maintained, a metal roof will usually last 40 to as many as 60 years! Not only that, metal doesn’t decompose or deteriorate like wood and asphalt.

  • How often should I have my gutters cleaned?

It is recommended to clean your gutters at least twice a year. If you’ve got a bunch of trees that are close to your Kendall Park NJ roof, you should clean them 3-4 times annually.

  • Why does a roof need ventilation?

Ventilation helps reduce the heat in the attic during the summer months and helps decrease moisture buildup under your roof. This is important because it puts less wear and tear on your shingles and roof deck.

Biondo Contracting provides roof repairs, roof replacements, roof installations, and many more roofing services to the Central NJ area in towns such as East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Hillsborough, Bedminster, South Plainfield, Green Brook, Avenel, Somerset, Bridgewater, Highland Park, Kendall Park, Manalapan, Colts Neck, and many more. Call today for a free roofing estimate.

Preventing Roof Leaks in Winter 2015

January 13, 2015 By sammyb

With winter 2015 comes some harsh elements that can many times cause damages or leaks to your South Brunswick NJ roof. Here are some things you can do to prepare your NJ roof for winter, and prevent problems in the future:

Tips From a Central NJ Roofing Contractor

  • Keep your roof clean. Debris is one of the leading causes of roof damage and leaks. Ensure that it is free of dead leaves, broken off branches, garbage and other waste.
  • Cut overhanging tree branches. If you have trees with branches that hang over your roof, have the branches trimmed. Snow and winds will cause the branches and debris from them to fall onto your roof.
  • Clean your gutters. Clogged gutters lead to ice dams, which can cause major problems in your attic and the upper floor of your home. Be sure your gutters are clear of leaves and other debris before cold temperatures become too frequent.
  • Upgrade your attic insulation. A well-insulated attic can prevent a lot of roof leaks, since many winter leaks are caused by melted snow from too much heat escaping through the roof you’re your home. Insulation decreases heat transfer, making this scenario less likely to occur.
  • Use a roof rake. These handy products are ideal for removing excess snow from your roof. This is another great way to help prevent roof leaks & ice dams. Just take care not to snag the rake on your gutters as you draw it back down.

Biondo Contracting provides roof repairs, roof replacements, roof installations, and many more roofing services to the Central NJ area in towns such as East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Hillsborough, Bedminster, South Plainfield, Green Brook, Avenel, Somerset, Bridgewater, and many more. Call today for a free roofing estimate.

Nature Vs. Your Roof

December 8, 2014 By sammyb

There are quite a few things out there in nature that can pose a threat or nuisance to your Middlesex County NJ roof. It is important to know what they are so you can help prevent some of them from affecting your roof. While some natural threats such as weather can’t be prevented, there are other things that can be.

  • The Sun: The strong heat and ultraviolet rays during hotter months will over time cause deterioration more quickly in our climate.
  • Rain: When water gets underneath your roofing materials, it can work its way to the roof deck and cause the structure to rot.  This can cause  the growth of mildew and mold in other parts of the house, including walls, ceilings, insulation and electrical systems.
  • Wind:  Strong winds can lift shingle edges forcing water and debris under them as well as totally rip shingles off your roof.
  • Snow and Ice:  Melting snow often refreezes at the overhang of the roof where it is cooler forming ice dams.  This causes water to back up under the shingles and seep into the interior because it can’t be drained into the gutters.  Gutters and downspouts can fill with ice and tear away from the house do to the weight and can cause even more drainage problems.
  • Moss and Algae:  Moss can grow on moist shingles and shakes work its way into a wood deck and structure bringing moisture.  Algae grows in damp, shaded areas on the roof and makes a  black or green streak stain. It can also cause rot and deterioration over time if left untreated.  Trees and bushes should be trimmed away from homes to prevent additional damp areas, and gutters should be kept clean to ensure proper drainage.
  • Trees and leaves:  High winds can cause untrimmed branches to brush against the roof causing scratches and punctures. Heavy precipitations can cause branches and leaves to break off onto your roof. Keep branches trimmed and leaves out of your drainage system.
